Lincolnshire student wins international sporting honours running for England

A Lincolnshire student has scooped international honours after being selected to run cross country for England.

George, aged 15,  from Skegness Grammar School, part of the David Ross Education Trust, was selected to represent England in the Schools’ International Athletics Board Cross Country after an outstanding performance in the National Schools Final.

George represented England in the  inter relay team at the Dublin event with his team coming first.

His journey to the top began after representing his school at the County Schools Cross Country in Stamford back in January, from where he progressed successfully to the National Schools final in Pontefract in March, where he finished an amazing 9th out of 367.

As George finished in the top 10, he was selected to represent England.

Meanwhile, students from Charles Read Academy, also part of the David Ross Education Trust, have scooped national table tennis honours for Wales and England.

Lowri, aged 16 is now the U21 Welsh National Champion for Table Tennis, and Ella, aged 15 claimed 2nd place in the U21 English National Championships for Table Tennis and the National Championships ‘player of the day’ award.

Both players developed their skills at their school’s Table Tennis Performance Centre.

 “We are so proud of our students in winning these titles. Sport is a very important part of what we do at the trust and a  lot of work has gone into training and helping these students reach their very best.

“These are fantastic achievements by our students. Many congratulations to George, Lowri and Ella in representing their schools so brilliantly.

 “I’m so pleased that they have all benefited from the excellent sports enrichment programme we are able to offer our students. Their results are testament to the importance of supporting and helping to develop sporting talent among young people at our trust. These three young people will now be beacons of what can be achieved to all our other pupils who are in training for their respective sports.”

Pupils across all DRET schools will be taking part in competitive sporting events this summer, including the Summer Cup held annually at Grantham Meres Sports Stadium.
